Listen to the wonderful phone call we just had with poet and author Laurie Sheck. Laurie just published "A Monster's Notes" - a reimagining of Frankenstein and a book that Kirkus Review called "Utterly astonishing and not to be missed."
I agree. And you should certainly not miss our phone call.

P.S. See the wonderful comments from the participants tonight and my comments after our pre-interview last Saturday here. See reviews and her bio here.
Thank you for a great discussion this evening!
I am so delighted that my introduction to the Reading Odyssey was this phone call with Laurie Sheck.
What an incredible discussion and opportunity we had this evening. I can't wait to read Laurie Scheck's book, and so many of the others that were mentioned tonight. At the moment, the option to return to the university environment may not be an option, but the community you have created is the next best thing! Thank you for inviting me to a part of it.
Happy Reading.

Wow!
What a great call! Laurie was just wonderful - so brilliant, sensitive, intuitive - it all came through in her story about the her process of writing the book. Really terrific!

Thank you very much for putting this together. I am an avid reader and I was able to skim through Laurie’s book on B&N over the weekend and I was very intrigued on the content, format and style. It was great to hear from an author who is clearly so passionate about her work. I plan to read it on my next flight back to the West Coast. And I am grateful for the reminder to go back and read the classic. I don’t think I read Frankenstein since College.

That was Monstrous....wonderful & fun too. I really enjoyed hearing about Laurie's own writing life and her process of creating the beast that is a book.
Best,
Evan

Great call!
She's a lovely soul, and her passion for reading and writing is contagious.
Well, I became an instant fan when I saw that Laurie's work "Captivity" plays off of Gerard Manley Hopkins. I think he was one of the under-appreciated geniuses of the 19th century, way ahead of his time.
I've got to read Shelley's work as well as Laurie's book.

I was late for the call but enjoyed listening to what author, Laurie Sheck, had to say about pursuing her writing of the book, "A Monster's Notes". It was interesting to hear how she incorporated truth with fiction. Her discussion on when she ran into a blank wall in the story thread and how she picked up her story line again, was very interesting. Laurie's pursuit to discover the ending for the story and the support of her husband, all made for a fascinating tale in itself!
Thank you for providing your listeners with the opportunity to hear Laurie discuss the details of the writing of her book. It gives us all "food for thought".

Thanks again for organizing this and inviting me. Axel and I where listening together *(while cooking and eating), and we both enjoyed it very much. We’ll go and buy the books for our first summer weekend on Fire Island this week.
I hope you are enjoying the summer as well—so glad it finally arrived!
